Send over a rough idea of what is moving and we reply with one number that has our family name on it. A shuttle for that long gravel driveway out on Green Bluff is already figured in, and when a Kendall Yards building needs a COI on file, that sits in the total before you ever see it.

How a move works
-
1
Tell us what’s moving
Use whichever is easier — the short form here or a call to the office — and one of the Pettinger family or our own crew picks up, never a message service. To get going we ask for four things: where you live now, where you are headed, a week that works for you, and a rough sense of how much there is to move. Nothing is signed and nothing is paid at this stage, and the details you share stay with us — they never get passed along to some lead-broker call bank.

2
One written price, locked
Most days the number lands in your inbox before the day is out: a firm price on paper, free of the over-the-phone guessing and free of the meter that keeps climbing once the truck is loaded. Whatever we email is what you hand over at the curb — the quote and the last box off the ramp add up to the very same figure, end of story. If a Kendall Yards or downtown building wants a Certificate of Insurance before the dock or elevator opens, Sara handles filing it with management inside their deadline and locks in any access window the address calls for, so the crew has a clear spot to work right at the door.

Move day: we lift, you relax
Out come the pads, the floor runners, the stair rollers, and whatever a tricky daylight-basement or split-level stair run happens to call for — and behind each of them is a W-2 mover on our own payroll, never a sub and never day-labor. From the first box to the last, the job stays ours the whole way: easing a piano down the stairs, rolling it to the curb, running it across town or out along the I-90 corridor, then setting every room back the way you left it. Should your closing slip and the new place run late, we slide the load into clean, dry storage to cover the gap between sale and move-in, and your schedule keeps right on rolling.
Tell us what’s moving
Hand us the details and the crew takes it from there. Maybe it’s a split-level in Spokane Valley, a daylight-basement home in Liberty Lake, a place on acreage out past Mead with a long gravel driveway, a Kendall Yards loft with one tight elevator, or a long pull west along I-90 — whichever it is, Pettinger Family Movers shows up in trucks we own, puts W-2 movers on our payroll to the work, and brings plenty of road behind us to take on whatever Spokane and the Inland Northwest throws our way.

Meet Dave Pettinger
“I got tired of watching Spokane families hire a cheap outfit that lowballed the quote over the phone and then padded the bill once the truck was loaded at the bottom of the driveway”
Grew up on Spokane's North Side and spent his summers loading trucks and hauling furniture up and down South Hill daylight-basement stairs. On most jobs you will still find Dave riding along on the truck and lifting beside the crew — and it is exactly that hands-on habit that keeps a quote honest, since the movers standing at your door are people he brought on and trained up himself.
Why families pick us
- A flat rate you can read — the number on the page is the number you pay; no rosy phone estimate, no invoice that creeps up once the boxes are loaded
- $1M in cargo coverage — and when a Kendall Yards building asks for a Certificate of Insurance, it is filed with management ahead of whatever deadline they set
- Trucks we own, crews on our W-2 — these movers are Inland Northwest locals, paid by us and covered by our policy; no part of the day is ever handed to a sub or filled in with day-labor
- Access and the COI are on us — a shuttle gets lined up for the long gravel driveways out on Green Bluff acreage, and the downtown COI is filed before move day; that is exactly where the bargain crews fall down
- A family you can reach — call in and Dave answers in person, and you will still find him on the bigger Liberty Lake and Kendall Yards jobs, so no far-off call center is ever running your move
- 16 years in the Inland NW — ordinary work for this crew: the stair runs of a Spokane Valley split-level, a daylight-basement carry in Mead, and a load-out started early so a winter snow or ice day can’t catch us out
Serving Spokane and the Inland Northwest
Top long-haul lanes from Spokane
Here is how it works: one flat rate in writing, our own US DOT number on a truck we hold the title to, and door-to-door tracking that rides with your load the whole haul — whether the drive runs west on I-90, south toward the Tri-Cities, or out across the Idaho line.
Common questions
Are the trucks and crews actually yours?
Yes — and nothing gets subcontracted. The trucks, the people loading them, and the operating authority all live under one roof. Pettinger Family Movers is a family household-goods mover led by Dave, based in Spokane, WA and licensed and insured across the state. For Washington intrastate work we hold WUTC HG-64217, and anything crossing state lines runs under live USDOT authority with MC authority. What that gets you is simple: every truck in the yard carries our title, each Inland Northwest mover handling your boxes is on our W-2 payroll, and no part of the day is ever quietly handed to a sub or filled in with day-labor.
What will my move cost?
Nothing here is metered — a local job is priced as one flat rate that covers the whole move, and that number holds whether the sofa has to thread a tight split-level stairwell or the truck has to ease down a long gravel driveway. Inland Northwest rates sit a touch over the national average: when an hourly figure fits the work, plan on roughly $130 an hour for a two-mover team; a two-bedroom apartment or condo usually lands between $500 and $1,250, with three- and four-bedroom houses above that. Once Dave has walked the rooms in person or gone through them on a video tour, the full flat rate goes in writing — the driveway shuttle, the COI, and any storage that bridges a sale and a closing all folded in.
How far ahead should I lock in a date?
Two weeks of lead time is the sweet spot for most families, and a little extra is wise once the warm-weather rush hits. The crunch dates are predictable: anything tied to a month-end closing, a lease that flips on the first, or the June-through-October window when it seems like the whole Valley is moving at once. Outside that busy stretch the board loosens up and a few days’ heads-up will usually do. Snow and ice are part of an Inland Northwest winter, but a cold-weather job still rolls on schedule — the only real wildcard is a serious storm front, and if the forecast is ugly Greg flags it with you well in advance. And if you catch us during a slow week with an open crew, even a same-week ask can often find a slot.
Is anything off-limits or too much to take on?
Start with the big stuff, because that is where most outfits flinch: a baby grand, an upright, a 1,000-pound gun safe down a flight of stairs. For our crew those are an ordinary Tuesday. Pad the boards, set the stair rollers, hand the job to people who have done it a hundred times with the right gear, and the heavy piece comes down clean — that is trained labor, not a couple of neighbors trading a Saturday. The map is just as wide. We cover the whole of Spokane and the Inland Northwest — Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Mead, Cheney, the Kendall Yards lofts, and the smaller towns scattered around the region — plus the long hauls west on I-90, south to the Tri-Cities, and over the Idaho line. And it goes well past furniture: full-service packing, dry storage that bridges a sale and a closing, and unhurried, gentle help for seniors thinning out a lifetime of things all sit squarely inside what we do.
Will you carry insurance and send a COI to my building?
Coverage rides on every single job — and the Certificate of Insurance is the one thing the cut-rate crews tend to fumble. Behind your move sits general liability, workers’ comp, and a bond on top of that, plus $1M of cargo liability; want more, and you can layer on full-value protection at about 1–3% of whatever value you declare. So when a Kendall Yards tower, a property manager, or an HOA board needs that COI on file before the dock or elevator will open, Sara turns it around and files it with management with time to spare on their deadline.
Does someone have to be there in person?
It runs a little easier when you are present at both stops — the load-out and the drop-off — mostly because a Kendall Yards or downtown front desk usually asks for a person to sign in at the dock. That said, life happens; if the morning slips away from you, a trusted relative or a neighbor holding the keys covers it just fine. Either way, the system does not change: every item gets tagged on its way up the ramp, and the same list gets checked off piece by piece as it comes through the door at the other end.
Any fee to reschedule?
Give us 48 hours or more and a cancellation costs you nothing at all, plain and simple. Moving the job to another day is free as well, as long as a crew is open on the date you want. One thing to bear in mind: month-end closings, lease turns, and summer dates fill fast all across the Inland Northwest, so the sooner you flag a change, the better your odds of holding onto the window your plans hinge on.
How can I pay?
Whatever is easiest for you works for us — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover are all welcome, and so are debit, a certified check, or cash. Holding your spot on the calendar takes nothing down. The balance is due at delivery, and not before you have looked the load over and signed off on it — not a minute sooner.
What if something is damaged?
Standard released-value coverage at $0.60/lb rides with every job, no surcharge attached. Notice something off? Flag it to the crew chief before the truck pulls away and it lands on that day’s inventory right then — and most claims wrap up comfortably inside the roughly nine-month window we keep open. Handing us a family heirloom, a piano, or anything you would hate to lose? Add full-value protection at around 1–3% of the value you declare, and that piece travels with a lot more cushion behind it.
Got a date? Leave the heavy part to us.
Drop us the pair of ZIP codes and the week you are eyeing; by end of day one straightforward flat rate comes back to you — the resident-permit parking and the downtown loft COI already worked into the figure, not added on later.
